Global Experience
With extensive experience working with both government and non-government partners, Barrett Communications is well-positioned to provide solutions for a range of military and defence applications.

With Tier 1 government organisations as clients, including the British Ministry of Defence and the US Department of Homeland Security, Barrett has positioned itself to become an industry leader in tactical and government communications.
“Barrett’s products are used extensively throughout foreign assistance programmes, specifically with the ADF in East Timor and the Pacific Islands, and US Foreign Military Sales with border security and counter-narcotics operations worldwide.”
Adding the Canadian Department of National Defence, supported through a quantity of robust and rugged tactical communications systems for use within the Arctic Circle, and the experience supporting armed forces, police, border security, paramilitary, and peacekeeping missions across the world, clearly illustrates the versatility of the Barrett product range.
Barrett Communications Director of business development, Martin Johnson, discussed the importance of providing a Tier 1 military capability: “Supporting the Canadian DND has been a great example of Barrett’s capability to meet the time-sensitive, mission-specific requirements of a Tier 1 military partner. This capability has been well-received by the Canadian operators.”
With established commercial relationships with industry-leading defence companies, including Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems UK, Thales France and Thales Italy, Barrett is looking to directly support the Australian Defence Force (ADF) through the delivery of critical communication equipment.
Sovereign Capability
Key to Barrett’s proposal for the Australian Army’s LAND 200 programme, which is aiming to establish a digital nervous system to empower the ‘networked and hardened’ army, is its sovereign capability.
Tranche 1 of the of the Australian Army’s Land 200 programme has already implemented a new a tactical data radio network, as well as software and computers, onto dismounted soldiers and roughly 2,000 platforms, including armed reconnaissance helicopters, armoured vehicles, and navy landing craft.
Land 200 Tranche 2 commenced in September 2017 and aims to train soldiers to think and fight digitally. This includes the use of the latest portable tablets to display hypothetical tactical exercises without troops, battle management systems to enable personnel to practice decision-making, and an enhanced simulated software programme for the supply of situational awareness data, such as soldier movements.
Tranche 2 will also emphasise integrating the latest technology onto more than 500 trucks, tanks, and armoured recovery vehicles.
The final part of the Land 200 project, Tranche 3, is scheduled to reach Defence Capability Life Cycle Gate 0 in mid-2020.
Tranche 3 includes replacing or upgrading existing outdated technology, completing the tactical communications network, as well as finishing the integration of the battle management system into combat platforms and remote weapon stations.
Mr Burt explained: “Barrett’s HF SDR is built locally and in-line with the requirements identified by the Australian Government for the Tranche 3 of the Land 200 programme. We are confident in our capability to build on our export success and provide the ADF with a truly sovereign capability.”
