QinetiQ, a company that delivers test, trials, training, and evaluation services for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), has placed an order with Celestia STS for two acquisition systems.
These systems are designed to support the long term partnering agreement (LTPA), a 25-year contract between QinetiQ and the MoD focused on maintaining and enhancing national defence capabilities.
Celestia STS, which provides satellite simulation, testing, communication, and data processing solutions, worked in collaboration with QinetiQ to develop the tailored acquisition systems.
The acquisition systems are built upon the Multi-Purpose Interface Platform (MPIP), a flexible and cost-effective electrical ground support equipment that allows for the testing and simulation of spacecraft electrical and data interfaces.
The MPIP’s modular design caters to the needs of spacecraft equipment builders and integrators.
Celestia STS business development manager David Stam said: “We are very proud to have received an order from QinetiQ and for them to have selected C-STS to design and build their new acquisition systems.”

By GlobalDataStam added: “MPIP has been successfully deployed in space missions including Galileo Second Generation, CRISTAL and ROSE-L and now it has been specially configured to support this bespoke acquisition system. We are looking forward to collaborating with QinetiQ to put it to the test.”
Additionally, Celestia STS has achieved JOSCAR registration, marking its recognition as a prime contractor in the defence, security, and aerospace sectors.
In 2019, QinetiQ enhanced its commitment to the MoD by signing a £1.3bn ($1.6bn) contract amendment for the LTPA.
In response to the evolving complexity of international security challenges, the UK military forces need contemporary and advanced facilities. These facilities are essential for the development of novel defence capabilities, as well as for evaluating their performance and providing training for military personnel on their safe and proficient use.
This amendment introduces more effective operational methods, resulting in a savings of £85m in public funds. Furthermore, it facilitates a joint investment by QinetiQ and the MoD amounting to £190m.
This investment is earmarked for the overhaul of infrastructure, equipment, and operational procedures at all 16 sites owned by the MoD.
