Sierra-Olympic Technologies, supplier of infrared (IR) and thermal imaging components, cameras, and systems solutions for innovative imaging applications, premiered the new VentusOGI, an optical gas imaging camera core, at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2018.

The revolutionary camera, with a 640 x 512, 15-micron pixel-pitch midwave-infrared (MWIR) detector array, provides unmatched thermal sensitivity and weighs only 580g with lens. Designed to optimise the detection and visualisation of hydrocarbon gas leaks, such as methane, propane, butane, and many more, the ‘hot-MWIR’ Ventus OGI is a lightweight, low-power camera core that can be integrated onto fixed-mounted, continuous-monitoring systems or used in gimbals or in enclosures for unmanned aerial system platforms.

Sierra-Olympic’s compact (146.6mm x 70.9mm x 73.1mm) OGI camera features a special narrow bandpass cold filter in the miniature, long-life, closed-cycle Stirling cooler with an f/1.5 cold shield and an optimised lens. State-of-the-art components, including the detector, cooler, and lens design, combine with a selection of digital and analog inputs/outputs (Camera Link, GigE, H.264, NTSC/PAL video plus RS-232/RS-422 serial camera control) to make this camera core an ideal optical gas imaging solution for integrators and OEMs. Applications include inspection of fuel/gas lines, storage tanks, generators, drilling/production wells, above and below ground gas pipelines, terminals, railway tank cars, flare stack monitoring, booster/pump stations, and more.
