Klinge Corporation is a leading provider of specialised ISO refrigerated containers. Klinge’s customised designs offer commercial and military customers robust alternatives to standard, mass-produced refrigerated containers, which often cannot meet the requirements of harsh environments or stringent testing. Klinge is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with headquarters located in York, Pennsylvania, and an engineering and sales office located in Denmark.

Military ISO refrigerated containers and reefer containers
Klinge provides a number of rugged and reliable products for military applications. Klinge’s military ISO container systems are used by military forces around the world for the transport and storage of food, medicine, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other perishable items.
Klinge has developed specialised 10ft and 20ft refrigerated containers for armed forces around the world, including the US, Hungarian and Austrian military, as well as the Australian Defense Force (ADF), Swedish Defence, and the United Nations, for the storage and transport of food and medicine in the field.
The 10ft reefer containers can serve as a fridge or a freezer. The 20ft reefer containers with moveable bulkheads and multi-temperature refrigeration allow each section to operate at different temperatures. The 10ft and 20ft reefer containers include an integral diesel generator set for independent operation in the field or during transport on a truck.
Klinge offers 10ft and 20ft military ISO refrigerated container systems that have been designed and tested to a multitude of military tests including vibration, cooling, driving rain, and electromagnetic compatibility and interference tests. The military container systems were tested at a state-of-the-art government test facility in Melbourne, Australia. The insulated containers used in all of Klinge’s refrigerated container systems are designed and tested in accordance with ISO 1496-2.
Redundant reefer containers for transporting dangerous goods
Klinge offers redundant, or dual, refrigerated containers for the transport of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods and other items requiring extra protection.
The redundant refrigerated containers have two refrigeration units (primary and backup). The refrigeration unit automatically switches to its backup in the case of a loss of performance or system failure to provide the ultimate peace of mind when shipping hazardous or valuable cargo.
Klinge’s redundant refrigerated containers comply with United Nations requirements for transporting organic peroxides and self-reactive substances. The International Maritime Organisation stipulates that organic peroxides (class 5.2) and self-reactive substances (class 4.1) should be transported in dual mechanical refrigeration systems with integral generator sets, such as those provided by Klinge.
Freezer containers for transporting seafood and pharmaceuticals
Klinge provides blast freezers that quickly freeze cargo to -60°C (-76°F). Klinge also offers nose-mounted freezers that maintain cargo temperatures within -20°C to -70°C (-4°F to -94°F)
Deep-frozen commodities known to benefit from being transported at -70°C include tuna, sea urchins, swordfish, and pharmaceuticals, among others. It is well documented that a significant increase in the quality of frozen fish and shellfish is achieved by blast-freezing seafood to an ultra-low temperature directly after being caught.
Quick thaw container units for controlled thawing of deeply frozen cargo
Klinge’s Quick Thaw Unit thaws and stores products at their ideal process temperature with minimal manual operation. The Quick Thaw Unit is widely used to thaw poultry, beef, and pork effectively and quickly before further processing.
Tank container reefers
Klinge’s refrigeration unit for tank containers maintains cargo and cooling liquid temperatures of -29ºC (-20ºF) to 29ºC (84ºF), and with heating modules, this is available up to 100°C. The refrigerated tank containers are used to transport liquid chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food products and beverages.
Military reefer unit for A-frame containers
The military refrigerated containers function as a freezer or refrigerator and maintain cargo between -20ºC (-4ºF) to + 20ºC (+68ºF). They contain a self-powered generator set to ensure complete and independent protection of the cargo. The special hook frame container system is equipped with integrated hydraulic rollers allowing easy loading/unloading and a manually operated hydraulic pump. The pump enables the rollers to be lowered when loading or unloading and raised when the container is stationary.
The military refrigerated container meets the requirements of mobility testing in accordance with AECTP 400 to ensure the system can withstand transportation on roads of poor quality. It also meets the requirements of radiated emission (MIL-STD-461F, RE102 and radiated susceptibility (MIL-STD-461F, RS103).
ATEX-rated offshore refrigerated containers
Klinge Corporation manufactures Offshore Refrigerated Containers that meet the requirements of the ATEX Directive, which contains stringent safety guidelines for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres (such as oil rigs, FPSOs, Supply vessels, oil fields and chemical factories).
Klinge Corporation’s ATEX Offshore Refrigerated Containers are rated for Hazardous Zone 2 areas in accordance with EN 60079-10 standards. Zone 1 containers may also be available.
