Weatherhaven was established in 1981 and has grown over the past 44 years to become one of the foremost redeployable infrastructure and solution providers to global militaries, government, peacekeeping and commercial customers.
The starting point for Weatherhaven’s product portfolio came from the lack of a shelter system able to cope with the world’s most extreme, remote and logistically challenging environments. Trapped in a week-long storm on Mount Logan in inadequate shelter, the company’s co-founder responded to a need to solve the challenges of remote-site polar deployments with a high-performance shelter and sustainable life-support systems, such as heating, lighting, flooring, power generation and distribution, water storage and distribution, and more. This product range has been proven in these harsh environments over many decades and has evolved to include large-scale, rapidly redeployable infrastructure solutions while maintaining the emphasis on high specification and logistically agile designs.
Weatherhaven operations and global presence
Whilst its headquarters remain in Greater Vancouver, Canada, Weatherhaven’s global reach is supported by the presence of manufacturing sites and sales offices throughout North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
In addition, Weatherhaven has established a robust global supply chain to augment its redeployable infrastructure for turnkey solutions that are delivered on time and on budget. Weatherhaven’s infrastructure is currently deployed on all seven continents and in over 90 countries, supporting military, scientific, commercial, and disaster relief missions in the toughest of terrains and climates.
For the past 40 years, the company has established itself as a world leader in all aspects of remote-site deployments, including integrated design, manufacturing, transport logistics, installation, demobilisation, life-cycle maintenance, repair and overhaul, and storage solutions. Weatherhaven’s designs continue to provide the highest quality of life for personnel whilst ensuring a secure environment from the elements.
Defence redeployable infrastructure solutions and capability
In tandem with Weatherhaven’s growth, the company has maintained its agility in designing and responding to the demands of the changing modern battleground. It designed and developed the Mobile Expandable Container Configuration™ (MECC™) in the 1990s, one of the first three-in-one expandable containers of its kind.
Its simplicity of design has kept pace with the changing demands of the military, resulting in thousands of MECCs being deployed worldwide by NATO and all the leading militaries as command posts, medical clinics and field hospitals, kitchens and ablutions, amongst many other configurations.
The company is a leader in the development of next-generation redeployable infrastructure solutions, addressing customer needs through innovative products, including expandable footprints and an array of deployment options. Weatherhaven’s research and development (R&D) programme has resulted in numerous speciality shelter systems and patented expandable containers for defence and industry.
More recently, the innovative Tactical Redeployable Expandable Container Capability™ (TRECC™) has been designed and delivered to NATO militaries. The TRECC is mounted on a light vehicle trailer or air-portable pallet, providing a capability that can be deployed within minutes and move swiftly without detection to reflect the most recent challenges of the battlefield. In all its designs, the emphasis remains on keeping a minimal logistical footprint while maintaining maximum capability.
Simplicity of design and redeployable infrastructure
The development of well-engineered ergonomic designs is key to Weatherhaven’s reputation. We understand that our clients’ missions are expeditionary in nature, with the necessity to move anywhere at any time. Our equipment is designed to be deployed in temperatures ranging from -51°C to +50°C and has been proven in every terrain and climate. Robust and low maintenance design that offers a long lifespan and consequently low through-service support costs has always been a fundamental principle for the company.
Rapid re-deployability and simplicity of operation are also critical to Weatherhaven’s designs, as well as a flexible configuration, allowing customers to easily re-purpose their Weatherhaven assets for a different use at the end of a particular mission. Some of our MECCs have started out life as a vehicle maintenance facility and then morphed into a command post, data centre or kitchen.
All our redeployable infrastructure can be integrated with optional power generation and distribution systems, LED lighting, HVAC systems, and more as required. Hybrid power systems are now becoming a standard feature of Weatherhaven’s designs, further reducing the logistical footprint of any mission.
