Specialised transport refrigeration manufacturer, Klinge Corporation, has completed the first article test reefer unit for the JSERCS project. The unit will refrigerate an expandable triple container (Tri-Con) system which expands from 1/3 the size of a normal 20ft container to nearly the full size of a 20ft container. Klinge’s unit will provide dual temperature refrigeration in ambient temperatures ranging from -25°F to +125°F. The temperature, cooling capacity, and power consumption of the reefer unit will be tested at a government facility in accordance with MIL-PRF-32335.

Advanced design accommodates thawing, refrigeration and freezing of food simultaneously

Klinge Corporation’s reefer features a movable and removable insulated partition to separate the two temperature zones. The design allows for thawing of a portion of the food while also keeping the remaining food frozen for later use.

The project, referred to as joint service expandable TriCon refrigerated container system (JSERCS), will be the next generation of advanced refrigerated TriCons for the US Department of Defense’s Combat Feeding Directorate. The system will be used in remote areas for field feeding of troops.
