On August 18, 2010, shelter manufacturer DHS Technologies LLC showcased several of its mobile emergency facilities, including a field hospital, surge facility and incident command post, during a disaster management demonstration in DuPont, Washington.
The facilities were constructed from the company’s line of deployable rapid assembly shelters, more commonly known as DRASH, that have been trusted by military forces around the world for more than 25 years. Growing in popularity among emergency responders across the country for their mobile, flexible design, DRASH shelters range in size from 109-1,250 feet and can be interconnected to increase workspace as needed.
The shelters can also be equipped will a full line of support equipment, including generators, lighting and heaters, to form fully equipped facilities that can be operated directly at the incident scene of any disaster.
During the demonstration, several shelters were outfitted with Philips patient monitoring, cardiac resuscitation and imaging equipment.
With more than 17,000 shelters in use around the world, DRASH has been deployed for disaster relief operations around the world, including by health officials during last year’s H1N1 pandemic and relief workers following the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti earlier this year.
