Another successful firing of the Ground Based Air Defence System IRIS-T SLM was demonstrated by Diehl Defence in the presence of 90 international experts and military representatives from 16 nations at the Overberg Test Range in South Africa.

The missile intercepted the target with a direct hit. During the entire flight, target data updates from the radar were provided to the missile through the data link, allowing the infrared seeker to lock onto the target in flight for the endgame. All hardware and software components performed flawlessly.

This achievement has also revealed the superior performance of the Data Link system that has been designed by INTRACOM Defense Electronics (IDE) for the IRIS-T SLM, under a Full Scale Development contract, following an international bid for the most suitable available technology for this advanced Air Defense System.

The successful firing highlights and once more confirms IDE’s world class technology and experience in the area of high speed military wireless systems, characterized by communication link robustness, security and high degree of jamming immunity.
Regarding IDE’s data link performance, Dr. Harald Buschek, Head of Business Unit Ground Based Air Defence, of Diehl Defence stated: "Once more, the data link worked perfectly when transmitting the data to the missile. I would like to congratulate IDE for this excellent performance and we are very proud to have IDE on our team!"
