Codan US, Military and Security Division, today announced that it has been selected by US Army Communication and Electronics Command (CECOM), Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, to provide $5 million of High Frequency (HF) manpack radios, and base stations for use by the Afghan National Police. The radio systems will be used for internal policing operations and in-country security as well as other communications purposes countrywide.

Andrew Sheppard, vice president and general manager, Codan US, said: “Codan is delighted that US Army CECOM has selected our HF radio systems to fulfil this important foreign military sales (FMS) order for Afghanistan. The Afghan National Police have used Codan radios extensively for a number of years and this latest order will add a significant capability to their existing Codan-based HF network.”

Included in the order are NGT SRx Base stations and Codan 2110 manpack radios. Mr Sheppard added: “Each radio system will be fitted with the Codan automatic link management module (CALM) and the Codan voice encryptor.”

Codan customers include the US Department of Defense, Department of State and civil authority segments within internal security. Mr Sheppard said: “Codan radios have traditionally been used by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in much the same manner as they will be used for policing operations, counter narcotics, counter insurgency, border control and emergency communications.” Mr Sheppard noted that Codan is already a recognised supplier to the US Army and has provided thousands of transceivers to support security and rebuilding programs in the Middle East and Africa.
