Saab UK has inaugurated its latest three-building campus in Fareham, Hampshire, which focuses on the development, production, and maintenance of its radar technology and Seaeye underwater robotics range.

The opening of the new facility, intended to support the UK Ministry of Defence, was presided over by Business and Trade State secretary Jonathan Reynolds.

Jonathan Reynolds said: “Following the government’s pledge to go further and faster to grow the economy, this is another vote of confidence in the UK, our world-class defence sector, and our upcoming Industrial Strategy.

“Saab’s investment in Hampshire has brought a major boost to local communities with hundreds of new high-paid, high-skilled jobs, and is exactly the sort of growth our pro-business, pro-growth Industrial Strategy will support.”

Among the products being developed at this location are the Giraffe 1X 3D multi-mission radar system and the Seaeye SR20, an all-electric subsea remotely operated vehicle.

Saab said that this facility bolsters the UK’s independent production capabilities in radar and underwater robotics, catering to local and international markets, with scope for further advancement.

It will also provide support for existing radars used by the UK Armed Forces, including the Giraffe 1X, Giraffe AMB, and TAIPAN radars.

This opening concludes Saab’s investment commitment made in 2023, with the site sustaining up to 400 jobs and fostering apprenticeships in the region.

Saab president and CEO Micael Johansson said: “This new campus is testament to Saab’s growth in the UK, reinforcing our long-term commitment to the UK’s defence.

“Thanks to our investment here we will deliver innovative technologies and products for our customers.”

In January 2025, Saab said that it will release its full fourth quarter 2024 report on 7 February.

The company expects its total sales for 2024 to reach around Skr63.8bn ($5.8bn), compared to Skr51.6bn in 2023, reflecting an organic sales growth of 23.4%. This performance surpasses Saab’s earlier forecast of organic sales growth in the range of 15-20% for the year.
