The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command (FDFLOGCOM) has finalised the procurement of 29 Patria XA-300 (6×6) armoured personnel carriers at a cost of €36.5m ($40.5m) , marking the final stage of an expanded purchase agreement.
The deal will enhance Finland’s Army’s operational capacity with modern mobility assets set to serve into the 2060s.
This acquisition represents the final portion of a 2023 agreement that included an option to purchase up to 70 additional units. The latest procurement brings the total number of Patria XA-300s in service closer to the full potential offered in the original contract, initially signed for 91 units with a purchase option for 70 more.
These armoured vehicles will provide the Finnish Army with mobility for modern battlefield operations and ensure the military’s ability to operate across diverse terrains. The XA-300’s modular design makes it ideal for adapting to operational needs, allowing for various mission configurations, from troop transport to logistics support.
The XA-300, also known as the Patria 6×6, vehicle’s design allows it to remain operational through the 2060s, providing the Finland with durability over a multi-decade life cycle. GlobalData’s intelligence on the Finnish defence market highlights that the vehicle has a top speed of 100 km/h and a maximum payload of 8,500kg.
Latvia has recently received its first domestically produced Patria 6×6 armoured vehicles. The Patria 6×6, designed for troop transport and advanced protection, has also been operational in Sweden and is part of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme involving several European nations.
In August 2024, Patria signed a Life Cycle Management (LCM) contract with Finland and Latvia to enhance the long-term operational efficiency of the Common Armoured Vehicle System programme, which also involves Sweden and Germany.
The procurement process has been spread across several phases, with 41 additional APCs already delivered between late 2023 and early 2024, ensuring a steady flow of updated vehicles into service. This newest purchase finalises the acquisition.
