The US Department of Defense (DOD) has activated additional US Army Urban Augmentation Medical Task Forces (UAMTF) to help combat Covid-19 in Texas and California. A total of nearly 740 DOD medical and support professionals from the US Army, US Navy and US Air Force (USAF) are assigned. In Texas, an extra task force will assist the state’s efforts in the Houston region. Four UAMTFs, along with a US Navy Acute Care Team and four US Navy Rapid Rural Response teams will support medical-related needs across the state. In California, US Northern Command has assigned around 160 military medical and support personnel from the USAF to support the state.
LeoLabs has received $15m Defense Production Act (DPA) Title III contract from the US Department of Defense (DOD) to strengthen domestic space industrial base and retain critical capabilities in the country. The DPA Title III investment will make sure the company continues to space surveillance capability and analyse spacecraft in low earth orbit. It will help the company mitigate the financial distress caused due to Covid-19 and offset direct workforce. The company has operating locations across the US.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is expected to announce the date of its STAR exam, which is conducted to select candidates for airmen in two groups. The online test was originally scheduled to be held in March but was postponed due to Covid-19. The IAF update was quoted by NDTV as saying: “In view of the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country due to Covid-19 pandemic causing serious disruptions, STAR 01/20 e-Pariksha scheduled in March 2020 was postponed. Fresh dates will be intimated in the second week of July 2020.”
