PARS 4×4 wheeled armoured vehicle, the latest member of the PARS family designed and manufactured by FNSS Defence Systems, was unveiled at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) held in Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2015.
The vehicle was designed at FNSS’ research and development centre situated in Ankara, and is intended to meet the operational requirements of the land forces in the battlefield.

The PARS 4×4 has four mission variants, which include command and control vehicle, armoured tactical vehicle, reconnaissance and surveillance vehicle, and anti-armour vehicle. Other vehicles in the PARS family are PARS 6×6 and PARS 8×8 armoured combat vehicles.
Design and features of PARS 4×4 wheeled armoured vehicle
Cobra II is a tactical wheeled armoured vehicle produced by Otokar, a company based in Turkey.
The PARS 4×4 armoured tactical vehicle features an open architecture and has amphibious capabilities. It is air transportable by military transport aircraft such as C130H, A400, C17, C-5 Galaxy, and CH-47 Chinook heavy-load helicopter.
The vehicle measures approximately 5m-long, 2.5m-wide, and 1.9m-high. It accommodates a crew of five members in the mine-protected seats. The roof-mounted cameras offer day and night situational awareness for the driver and the commander, while the windows provide enhanced field of view.
A hydraulic recovery winch system attached to the front section facilitates self-recovery when needed. Two doors are provided on both sides of the vehicle for ingress and egress of the crew. The vehicle is also integrated with command and warning panels as well as MIL STD 1275 and MIL STD 461-compliant electrical system.
The vehicle is capable of operating in deep and fast-flowing waters using two water jets fitted at the rear section.
Armament fitted to the wheeled armoured vehicle
The PARS 4×4 command control vehicle variant is armed with a 12.7mm remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), whereas the armoured tactical variant is equipped with 7.62mm and 12.7mm machine guns or 40mm grenade launchers. The anti-armour variant uses a remote-controlled anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system.
Protection features of PARS 4×4 armoured vehicle
Ballistic materials used in the vehicle offer protection against mines and improvised explosive devices (IED). The ballistic-protected windows ensure that the occupants are safe from ballistic threats and physical attacks.
Engine details
The PARS 4×4 wheeled armoured vehicle is powered by a diesel engine, which uses F34 and JP8 fuels and has a power-to-weight ratio between 25hp/t and 30hp/t.
Coupled with the engine is a fully-automatic transmission system. The double-wishbone, independent, hydro-pneumatic suspension system offers better ride comfort, while an axle lock provides increased stability for the vehicle on slippery surfaces and soft soil.
The vehicle is fitted with air / hydraulic service brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), and parking brakes that are spring-activated, hydraulically-released and integral-to-driveline. The run-flat tires, featuring central tyre inflation system, offer improved mobility on any terrain.
Mobility of PARS 4×4 armoured vehicle
The PARS 4×4 tactical vehicle has a maximum road speed of 120km/s and a water speed of 8km/s. It offers a range of more than 700km, and has approach and departure angles of 54° and 42°, respectively. It can climb grades of 70% and side slopes up to 40%. The vehicle can traverse a vertical obstacle of 50cm and a trench of 90cm, and has a turning radius of approximately 7m.
