The ANAFI USA unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is manufactured by French UAV developer Parrot.
Launched in July 2020, the Parrot ANAFI platform is an improved version of Parrot’s original Anafi design. The UAV retains the features of Short-Range Reconnaissance (SRR) UAV designed by Parrot for the US Army.
It is intended for various applications, including military, homeland security, police, search and rescue (SAR), emergency response, firefighting, surveying, and inspection.
Design and features of Parrot ANAFI USA UAV
Weighing 1.1lb, the ANAFI USA unmanned aerial vehicle employs quad-rotor design that folds easily. The UAV’s dimensions when folded and unfolded are 9.92in x 4.09in x 3.23in and 11.10in x 14.69in x 3.30in respectively.
It can be launched and recovered by the user from the palm of the hand to enable rapid deployment.
The UAV is integrated with advanced flight features such as FreeFlight 6 flying interface, which offers more intuitive and smoother piloting experience. The application allows the users to alter piloting modes from manual to automatic and offers multiple imaging options.
In the autonomous mode of operation, the ANAFI USA drone’s flight routes can be executed autonomously using pre-defined waypoints or set by coordinates in assisted framing. The UAV’s return to home (RTH) feature allows the users to command the drone to safely return to the launch point in the event of emergency.
The IP53-certified UAV is suitable to fly in rainy conditions. The weather-proof aircraft offers water and dust resistance.
ANAFI USA payload
The ANAFI USA UAV carries a gimbaled triple camera payload with up to 32x continuous zoom and a tilt range of -140° to 110°.
Stabilised in three axes, the payload comprises two CMOS imaging sensors, electro-optical (EO) wide 4K HDR camera and a FLIR Boson 320 long-wave infrared (IR) imaging camera for capturing high-quality real-time imagery and video even in tough flight conditions.
Navigation and sensors of ANAFI USA
Navigation is assisted by global positioning system (GPS), global navigation satellite system (GLONASS) and Galileo global navigation satellite system.
The UAV is fitted with barometer for vertical channel stabilisation and magnetometer for attitude calibration.
The sensor suite also includes two three-axis gyroscopes, two three-axis accelerometers, and two six-axis inertial measurement units (IMU).
A vertical camera and an ultra-sonar sensor are installed to ensure optimal position of the aircraft.
Parrot Skycontroller 3 remote controller
The Parrot Skycontroller 3 remote controller provides enhanced control for flying the ANAFI USA drone up to a range of 4km. It features WPA2 Wi-Fi antenna, LED status indicator, RTH button, take-off/landing button as well as left and right control sticks.
The Wi-Fi connection authenticates and encrypts the secure radio link between the UAV and the controller. The real-time imagery and video captured by the UAV can be sent to the Parrot Skycontroller 3 via the radio link.
Power-plant
The ANAFI USA unmanned aerial vehicle is powered by three 4.4V-cell fast-charging smart Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) batteries with a capacity of 3,400mAh.
The battery can be charged in two hours with an USB-PD, while the charging time with the fast-charging port is three hours and 20 minutes.
ANAFI USA performance
The maximum horizontal speed of the ANAFI USA UAV is 14.7m/s, while the maximum vertical speed 6m/s.
The unmanned aircraft offers a maximum endurance of 32 minutes and can be operated in no-fly zones. It can withstand wind speeds up to 14.7m/s. The service ceiling above mean sea level is 6km while the operating temperature range is between -35°C and 43°C.
The drone delivers quiet operation with a sound level of 79dB when flying at 50cm off the ground.
