Leidos has secured a contract, with a total ceiling value of $249m, to enhance biometrics applications across the US Army and select joint-service installations access control points globally.

The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract for the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) Next Generation has a six-year period of performance.

The single award, follow-on contract was granted by the Army Contract Command for the Program Executive Office Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors.

As the prime contractor for AIE, Leidos will extend its cloud-based solution with advanced biometrics modalities to 92 additional Continental United States and Outside the Continental US locations.

The company's biometric systems, including those developed for AIE, are designed to validate digital identities and incorporate evolving cybersecurity protections.

The cloud deployment aims to provide near real-time updates to authentication requirements, enhancing force protection measures.

AIE is the Army's programme of record for streamlining access control for authorised personnel and vehicles by validating identification credentials against authoritative and law enforcement databases.

The company will carry out its activities on site at Army and joint-service installations, while systems engineering and testing will take place mainly at their Edgewood facility in Maryland, US.

Leidos homeland and force protection solutions senior vice-president Mike Diggins said: “We are proud to be the Army’s solution of choice for access control and security for all Army installations worldwide.

“Our use of cloud technology and biometrics applications is intended to enable secure, frictionless pedestrian and vehicle throughput at military access control points.”

Diggins added: “In collaboration with the Army customer, we’ve been able to demonstrate cloud-scale and persistent innovation to advance force protection solutions. We’re excited to apply this success to the next generation of the programme.”

In May 2024, Leidos secured $631m contract to support the US Army’s Development, Integration, Acquisitions, Bridging to Logistics & Operations programme.
