The Finnish Government has decided to deliver additional defence material package to support and strengthen defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The government’s proposal of a new material package received final approval from the Republic of Finland’s President Sauli Niinistö on 25 August 2023.
This will be Finland’s 18th defence materiel and assistance package to be delivered to Ukraine.
The replacement value of the defence materiel capabilities included under the latest package is estimated to be approximately €94m ($101.7m).
With the addition of latest package, the total replacement value of all the defence materiel packages delivered by Finland to Ukraine has further increased to around €1.3bn.
The Finnish government and Ministry of Defence (MoD) have not provided the additional details or delivery timeline of this package, due to various operational reasons and to ensure safe delivery of the assistance to the Ukrainian forces.
However, the MoD said that the latest additional military support package has been prepared and decided after considering the existing needs and resources of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Finland Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen said: “The support of Finland and our allies to Ukraine remains unwavering.
“The core issue in terms of the future security order in Europe and in Finland is to be able to curb Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.”
In March this year, the Finnish MoD confirmed donation of additional mine-clearing Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine. The 14th defence materiel package was valued at around €161m.
