Elbit Systems, a defence technology company, has been awarded a $55m (NIS209m) contract to supply a ReDrone Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) solution to the Netherlands.

The multi-layered system integrates advanced radar, signal intelligence sensors, and electro-optical payloads to detect, identify, locate, track, and neutralise hostile unmanned aerial systems. This solution marks a step in the ongoing battle against the rising threat of drones and reinforces the collaboration between Elbit Systems and the Netherlands.

The project is scheduled to span four years. This project also builds upon an earlier deal this year between Elbit Systems and the Dutch Ministry of Defence, where the Netherlands announced they would procure PULS rocket artillery systems from Elbit Systems.

As an integral part of this contract, Elbit Systems will deliver a range of mobile, stationary, and deployed ReDrone integrated Counter-UAS system configurations. This package includes a logistic support plan and training provisions for optimal deployment and utilisation.

The system combines advanced DAiR radar, signal intelligence (SIGINT) sensors, and COAPS-L electro-optical (EO) payload, resulting in an advanced integrated aerial view. This integrated system also boasts high-level electronic attack capabilities, and all are managed through a unified command and control system.

One of the key differentiators of the ReDrone system is its extended functionalities beyond standard active and passive sensors. This allows the system to detect and pinpoint multiple drones within the designated protected zone. The anti-drone protection and neutralisation system was launched in 2016 by Elbit Systems.

The system operates efficiently day and night, across urban and rural environments, and under varying weather conditions. Its capabilities encompass detection, identification, location, tracking, and neutralising hostile unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

Oren Sabag, general manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, highlighted the growing threat posed by drones and the increased demand for Counter UAS solutions. “The growing threat of drones increases demand for our Counter UAS solutions.

We have leveraged our technology of advanced radar, signal intelligence, electro-optic and electronic warfare technologies to develop an advanced, open and future-ready solution for this emerging requirement of our customers. We are very proud to have been selected by the Netherlands to supply this solution and further strengthen our long-term partnership.”

With its tech, Elbit Systems is poised to remain a player in the evolving landscape of counter-drone solutions.
