The US Army’s modular handgun system (MHS) compact variant, the 9mm M18 striker-fired pistol, has completed Lot Acceptance Test (LAT).

Normally, LAT would include 5,000 rounds and up to 12 stoppages for a handgun to pass the testing.

During LAT, which was conducted as part of the MHS material reliability testing, three M18 pistols fired 12,000 rounds each with zero stoppages.

The M18 pistol also completed a parts interchange test, as well as firing pin indent and trigger pull measurements.

Developed by Sig Sauer, M18 is fitted with SIGLITE front night sights and removable night sight rear plate, and manual safety, as well as equipped with a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide with black controls.

Sig Sauer was awarded a contract in January 2017 to deliver the full-size M17 and the compact M18 with the P320-based pistol platform.

The company will supply a total of 480,000 pistols over a period of ten years.

So far, Sig Sauer has delivered more than 20,000 pistols that are being deployed with the US Army, US Air Force, US Navy, US Marine Corps, and US Coast Guard.
