The US Department of Defense (DoD) has decided to provide Ukraine with $200m of security cooperation funds.
The funds will be used to develop the defensive capacity of the country’s armed forces with procurement of additional training, equipment and advisory efforts.

It will strengthen the long-standing defence relationship between the US and Ukraine and brings the total US security sector assistance to Ukraine to more than $1bn since 2014.
Since April 2014, more than 10,300 people have been killed in the conflict instigated after Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula, reported Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty.
The financial assistance will also help provide equipment to support ongoing training programmes and operational needs of Ukraine.
In addition, it will support a number of capabilities used to improve the command and control, situational awareness systems, secure communications, military mobility, night vision and military medical treatment of the nation.
The security cooperation between the two nations is built on the recent adoption of the Law on National Security of Ukraine.
Offering a legislative framework for aligning Ukraine’s national security architecture with Euro-Atlantic principles, the national security law constitutes a major step toward the country’s goal of achieving NATO interoperability.
The implementation of the reforms will strengthen the nations’ capability to defend its territorial integrity in support of a secure and democratic Ukraine.
Details about the delivery and fielding of equipment will be made known in due course.
