The UK Government is reportedly holding talks with Ukraine on their first weapons deal, which is expected to see Kyiv buy missiles.

The talks are over the supply of maritime Brimstone missiles and air-to-surface Brimstone missiles for Ukrainian vessels, reported The Times.

The talks, which also cover on the supply of missiles for aircraft, come as the two countries intend to strengthen their co-operation following Brexit.

These missiles are considered to have been designed by French firm MBDA UK. However, their manufacturing and design also take place in the UK.

The UK has only provided Kyiv with training and non-lethal equipment in the past.

According to The Times, these negotiations come amid ongoing tensions as Ukraine fears Russia could exploit the natural gas crisis in Europe to take control over more of its territory.
