The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has awarded Elbit Systems UK a £102m contract to supply its Dismounted Joint Fires Integrator (DJFI) ‘sensor to shooter’ system for Joint Terminal Attack Controllers and Fire Support Teams.
Delivered over five-years, the DJFI system is a networked target acquisition system is capable of generating and transmitting targeting information to weapon systems. Elbit said DJFI can interface with the radio systems already used by the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines.
Personnel can interact with information gathered by the thermal-enabled DJFI via a tablet and communicate it to artillery or aircraft, allowing them to engage the target accurately. The tablet system allows personnel to classify potential targets while remaining in cover.
Defence Procurement Minister Jeremy Quin said: “This contract with Elbit Systems UK not only delivers the very latest in battlefield technology to our frontline soldiers but also invests in the British defence industry, sustaining more than 500 jobs across the UK.”
The MOD said the DJFI would deliver ‘six distinct fires integration equipment suites’ which correspond to different battlefield roles. The department added that the system was designed to be ‘integrated and used alongside similar equipment’ of allied armed forces.
Elbit Systems UK CEO Martin Fausset said: “The UK is a significant market for Elbit Systems and the Company intends to continue with its efforts to support the British Armed Forces and expand the cooperation with the UK industry.
