Thales has announced the development of the Ground Master 200 Multi Mission (GM200 MM) radar, which is designed to meet the needs of modern complex battlefield environments.
GM200 MM belongs to the company’s dual-axis multi-beam 4D active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars series.
The new radar will be available in two versions. The all-in-one version, GM200 MM/A, is suitable for medium-range ground-based air defence and air surveillance.
GM200 MM/C, the compact version of the radar, is for missions such as counter battery and weapon locating that require high tactical mobility and rapid deployment. It is also suitable for short-range air defence (SHORAD) and very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) missions.
Both radar versions are user-friendly, easy to transport and highly automated.
Currently, the radars are in advanced stages of development and the company expects the first serial unit deliveries to take place in 2021.
Thales’s digital technology allows the Ground Master 200 radar to quickly track and lock the target for a longer period of time, as well as procure smaller and slower targets.
The technology includes scalable and upgradable antenna design and software-defined radar technology that provides upgrade capacity throughout its lifecycle.
Dual-axis multi-beam technology provides steering flexibility in elevation and bearing.
Other Thales 4D AESA products include NS50, NS100/200, SMART-L MM and Sea Fire medium and long-range radars. These have been in operational use with more than 20 armed forces.
Last month, the Royal Netherlands Army / Defence Materiel Organisation signed the first contract for nine GM200 MM compact version radars.
