Safran Defense & Space (DSI) has secured a contract to perform preventive maintenance for several mobile and fixed antennas at a US Army Test Range.

The agreement, spanning five years, entrusts Safran DSI’s Testing & Telemetry Business Unit with the upkeep of ten telemetry antennas, ensuring their operational reliability and longevity.

This maintenance effort is set to enhance the value delivered to the army, by prolonging the lifespan of the antennas, particularly in high-use conditions.

The contract involves the upkeep of six mobile SPARTE 324 antennas and four stationary SPARTE 555 antennas.

Safran Defense & Space, with its telemetry tracking solutions tailored for flight test applications, manufactures these systems in Norcross, Georgia.

The company’s portfolio ranges from compact models to 13m antennas, adaptable for various platforms including mobile, trailer, skid-mounted, and shipborne configurations.

Safran’s antennas track flying objects such as aircraft, helicopters, missiles, and hypersonic vehicles.

The Testing & Telemetry unit of Safran DSI offers solutions encompassing data acquisition systems, RF receivers, transmitters, telemetry tracking antennas, and mission data management systems.

These are all designed to deliver ‘robust’ performance and dependability for flight testing scenarios.

Safran DSI Telemetry director Allan Begg said: “Delivering our antennas along with preventive maintenance demonstrates Safran’s commitment to reliability and to supporting our customers in their critical, time-sensitive missions.

“This contract reinforces our dedication to providing expert support and ensuring long-term performance.”

This contract follows Safran’s selection in September last year to provide the Australian Army with a sensor capability for its Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles, equipping them with the PASEO Joint Fires panoramic sight for day-and-night operations.

In December last year, Safran DSI initiated an aggressive expansion plan in the US market.

Safran DSI is broadening its expertise in digital design, model-based systems engineering, Modular Open Systems Approach, and sophisticated manufacturing processes with notable developments at its electrooptics and infrared systems site in Bedford; its new establishment focused on small satellite propulsion in Denver, Colorado; and at the Safran Federal Systems hub for Assured Positioning, Navigation & Timing in Rochester.

These strategic investments, complemented by testing and telemetry activities in Norcross, are set to elevate Safran DSI’s manufacturing output and reinforce the US’ supply chain infrastructure.
