The US Army has placed an order with Saab for the delivery of new ultra-lightweight camouflage net systems (ULCANS).
Valued at approximately Skr586m ($66m), the new order includes the delivery of both woodland and desert camouflage systems by Saab.
The ULCANS will be used by the US Army to ensure that its troops are equipped with the most advanced signature management systems currently available across the globe.
Saab Dynamics business area senior vice-president and head Görgen Johansson said: “Saab is a recognised world leader in the development and production of signature management solutions.
“ULCANS provides outperforming multispectral capabilities while it remains lightweight and easy-to-handle.”
The camouflage net system serves as an advanced, all-weather, signature management concealment system and is designed to be easily used by the soldiers.
The multispectral, lightweight and easy-to-handle camouflage screen helps improve force survivability by concealing military objects and providing protection against visual, as well as near-infrared, thermal infrared and broadband radar, threats.
Offering high reliability for its users, the equipment is the only signature management solution designed and developed entirely in the US specifically to meet the requirements of the US Army troops.
Saab Defense and Security USA president and chief executive officer Erik Smith said: “Saab’s camouflage systems provide the US Army with a state-of-the-art signature management capability for its land forces, including exceptional levels of multispectral protection against any possible sensor threat available today.”
With deliveries expected to be carried out between next year and 2020, the new equipment will be manufactured at Saab Defense and Security’s business unit Saab Barracuda, based in Lillington, North Carolina, US.
