Patria has demonstrated the remote beyond visual line of sight operation of its AMV 8×8 vehicle under 5G network.
This marks a milestone in the company’s heavy unmanned ground vehicles development and capabilities.
The demonstration was conducted in cooperation with the University of Tampere as part of the research project RemoteFeel.
RemoteFeel was founded by Business Finland, FIMA (Forum for Intelligent Machines) and the research parties.
It saw the use of Patria’s Remote Operating Desk (ROD) and advanced user interface with features that included augmented reality and haptic feedbacks.
The vehicle also features the University of Tampere-developed a combined stereo camera system.

By GlobalDataIn 2018, Patria demonstrated its unmanned heavy ground vehicle capabilities with two Patria AMV 8×8 vehicles at European Land Robots Trial (ELROB) in Belgium.
The new unmanned solution can be integrated into new Patria AMVXP, Patria 6×6 vehicles and the existing delivered AMV 8x8s.
Last month, Patria won a contract to deliver an AMV 8×8 System Platform vehicle to Saab for demonstration and marketing purposes.
Once delivered, the latest generation of Saab vehicle electronics and video systems will be tested using the vehicle.
Separately, Patria and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace partnered for the future US Army turreted mortar programmes.
