NIOA has secured an Australian Department of Defence (DoD) contract to supply munitions to the country’s military.
Under the A$95m ($72.3m) contract, the company will supply more than 30 different munitions ranging from small arms to 120mm M1A1 Abrams tank ammunition over the next five years.
The contract has an option to be extended by 15 years.
Australian Minister for Defence Industry Christopher Pyne said: “NIOA’s global supply arrangement means the Australian Defence Force will use the latest technology, while creating jobs in Brisbane.
“NIOA has been a supplier of munitions for many years, and this contract represents their growing success as an Australian business and an important part of our defence industry.”
The munitions being delivered under the contract will be sourced from NIOA’s internal partners, including Rheinmetall Waffe Munitions, Orbital ATK and Vista Outdoors.
The company’s facility adjacent to Brisbane Airport houses an advanced indoor firing range to test weapons and ammunition in controlled conditions.
Last month, NIOA was selected to supply Barrett M107A1 and MRAD weapon systems to the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).
The company already supplies and supports NZDF’s new Personal Protection Weapon, the Glock pistol.
