The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential $1.25bn foreign military sale of high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) to Romania.
Under the sale, Romania seeks to receive 54 HIMARS launchers, 81 M31A1 unitary guided multiple launch rocket systems (GMLRS), 81 M30A1 alternative warhead GMLRS, 54 army tactical missile systems (ATACMS), 24 advanced field artillery tactical data systems (AFATDS), and 15 M1151A1 high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs).
The country has also requested 54 M1084A1P2 HIMARS resupply vehicles (RSVs), 54 M1095 MTV cargo trailers with RSV kits, ten M1089A1P2 FMTV wreckers, and 30 low-cost reduced range (LCRR) practice rockets.
The sale also covers support equipment, communications equipment, sensors, spare and repair parts, test sets, batteries, laptop computers, publications and technical data, facility design, and training equipment.
Romania also requested systems integration support, quality assurance, technical assistance, and engineering and logistics support services from the US Government.
The potential sale is expected to support Romania’s self-defence requirements and Nato's defence goals.
