The UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) is seeking suppliers to support its Dismounted Soldier System Engine Room research for a period of four years.
The £40m contract requires suppliers to carry out operational analysis, technology research, and systems engineering to sustain and enable the UK’s dismounted soldier capability.
DSTL Engine Room Technical lead Duncan Stewart said: "The Dismounted Soldier System Engine Room contract, which will be delivered through a DSTL-industry led team, will play a key part in research to deliver an integrated soldier system.
"It is an opportunity for suppliers to contribute to what the soldier could look like in the future, including developing the next-generation of weaponry and supporting the integration of man-worn power and data."
In September, the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) unveiled the integrated Future Soldier Vision (FSV) concept, featuring a network of sensors for information sharing, as well as power and data connectors.
The concept was developed by DSTL, Kinneir Dufort and SEA. It combines survivability, improved situational alertness and network competence, and demonstrates possible advancements for battlefield technology in the 2020s.
