Tepro Consortium has completed the selection of primary suppliers for the Brazilian Army’s sistema integrado de monitoramento de fronteiras (Sisfron) programme.
Established by two Embraer Defense and Security companies, Savis Tecnologia e Sistemas and OrbiSat Indústria, the consortium was selected to implement the pilot phase of the programme in August 2012.
Stemac, CM Comandos, Enecol, and Casa da Floresta are the Brazilian suppliers chosen to supply electromagnetic signal sensor, tactical communications, optronics and infrastructure subsystems for the project.
Among the foreign suppliers, RFCom will deliver mobile equipment, while AEL International, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, has secured a contract to provide electro-optic observation systems for Sisfron’s subsystems.
Medav has been selected for delivery of electromagnetic signal sensor system comprising stationary and mobile remote controlled sensor-stations, along with a regional centre for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) monitoring and a training centre by 2016.
Harris received a contract to supply an advanced tactical communications system featuring radios and related accessories from its Falcon III 7800 tactical radio family, including high-frequency, very-high-frequency, multiband, soldier personal radio and high-capacity line-of-sight radios.

Valued at $6bn, Sisfron is a security programme featuring a network of surveillance radars, sensors, command and control communication systems, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed to gradually enhance protection along western borders of Brazil over the next decade.
Scheduled to be implemented in stages, the project will include surveillance and protection of 16,886km of land border, involving 11 neighbouring countries, ten states and 588 municipalities, which make up 27% of the nation’s territory.
