Germany’s Federal Agency for Procurement, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr has awarded a contract to Rheinmetall to continue the provision of contractor support at a German Army training facility.
Under the contract, the company’s simulation and technology division will provide support for the complete exercise and training operations of the German Army Training Centre (GUZ) in the Altmark region of Saxony-Anhalt.
Rheinmetall will systematically work to improve the GUZ’s existing capabilities, ensuring that the centre is able to perform its core mission with maximum effectiveness, greater realism and efficiency.
The company has been providing contractor support at German Army facilities under a contract that expires on 31 August.
Rheinmetall Defence Simulation and Training division managing director Ulrich Sasse said: "This contract underscores our ability to supply not only state-of-the-art, highly sophisticated training systems, but also relevant operational and maintenance services, which meet the full range of customer requirements, all at an extremely attractive price."
The contract value depends on the level of Bundeswehr utilisation during the contract’s lifecycle, but is expected to reach €70m.

Meanwhile, Rheinmetall Dienstleistungszentrum Altmark is expected to take over the on-site provision of contractor operational support at the GUZ in the future.
Specific responsibilities include general management, as well as maintenance and repair of the computer hardware and tactical vehicles for the training formations, ranging from all-terrain small-utility vehicles (SUVs) to main battle tanks.
In addition, the company would be responsible for operation and maintenance of the headquarter cell, communications network and laser-duel simulators, along with transport operations and the issue, return, maintenance and storage of the numerous items of simulation equipment.
Rheinmetall is expected to help safeguard jobs in the region by sub contracting local companies for a range of services.
Designed to comprehensively train all military formations for combat operations and deployments, GUZ is also expected to induct future soldier (IdZ) technology and provide training for military operations in urban terrain.
