The US Army Rapid Equipping Force has awarded a contract to ReconRobotics for 315 Recon Scout XT micro-robot kits and SearchStick devices.
Recon Scout XT weighs 540g, can be deployed in five seconds, thrown up to 120ft (36m) and recharged in the field using standard 5590 or 2590 batteries.
The SearchStick enables warfighters to convert any Recon Scout Throwbot into a pole camera to determine the layout over enemy compound walls, onto rooftops and into culverts, as well as aiding the identification of potential IEDs.
The micro-robots maximise situational awareness and standoff distance during route and compound-clearing operations.
Deliveries under the $4.8m contract are expected to be completed by 31 October 2011.
More than 2,000 Scout systems have been deployed by the US military and international friendly forces worldwide.
