Oshkosh Defense has successfully completed the production readiness review (PRR) for the US Department of Defense’s (DoD) joint light tactical vehicle (JLTV) programme.
The PPR included a review of the company’s manufacturing readiness status, quality management system and production planning capabilities, to ensure that schedule, performance and cost requirements will be achieved in the upcoming production phase.
In August 2012, Oshkosh received a $56.4m engineering, manufacturing and development (EMD) contract from the US Army to deliver 22 JLTV prototypes for US Government testing.
Oshkosh executive vice-president and Oshkosh Defense president US Army retired major general John Urias said: "Oshkosh Defense’s production readiness review demonstrated that we are ready to start JLTV production on an active and proven production line that is already building heavy, medium and protected MRAP military vehicles for our armed forces.
"Throughout the EMD phase, we’ve been preparing our facilities, personnel and systems to seamlessly transition into production.
"In fact, we built our 22 EMD vehicles on our active assembly line in early 2013, right alongside our MRAP all-terrain vehicle (M-ATV), family of heavy tactical vehicles (FHTV), family of medium tactical vehicles (FMTV) and other military and commercial platforms."

By GlobalDataThe company’s JLTV successfully completed 200,000m and all requirements for reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) testing at the US Army’s Electronic Proving Grounds at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, US, in July.
Oshkosh is offering its light combat tactical all-terrain vehicle (L-ATV) for the programme, which aims to replace the US Army and Marine Corps’ ageing high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs) fleet.
Manufactured on the Oshkosh’s active manufacturing line, the JLTV prototypes include a four-door multipurpose variant and two-door utility variant.
Both versions feature common crew protection and advanced automotive systems, as well as the patented Oshkosh TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system, which provides enhanced levels of protection and off-road performance in a light vehicle.
Lockheed Martin and AM General are also bidding for the JLTV contract.
