Nexter has secured a contract from the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) to supply CAmion Equipé d’un Système d’ARtillerie (Caesar) artillery systems to the Danish Army.
The Caesar is a 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer designed to provide a highly flexible, deployable and affordable full spectrum solution for indirect fire support.
This truck-mounted artillery system is a 52-calibre, self-propelled gun that can maintain a firing rate of six to eight rounds a minute in its sustained fire mode, or three rounds in 15s in rapid-fire mode.
Under the contract with DALO, Nexter will supply 15 8×8 Caesar artillery systems to the Danish Army.
The contract also has an option for an additional six Caesar systems.
The French forces have been using Caesar in combat operations in Lebanon, Afghanistan, Mali and currently in Iraq, since its entry into service in 2009.
Nexter Group CEO Stephane Mayer said: “We are proud to support such a longstanding ally of the French Army and member of the Nato alliance.
“This first success for the 8×8 Caesar configuration confirms the relevance of our vision and strengthens our dedication to meeting the fast-moving and specific needs of our customers.”
The procurement of Caesar systems by the Danish Army is expected to strengthen existing cooperation between the Danish and French armies.
The artillery system is said to meet the current and future requirements of the Danish Army.
In February, Nexter was contracted to supply additional Caesar artillery systems to Indonesian Armed Forces.
Indonesia had ordered 36 Caesar artillery systems in 2012.
