Lockheed Martin and Raytheon have submitted their final proposal revision for the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) ground-based midcourse defence (GMD) development and sustainment contract.
The contract involves development, manufacturing, testing, training, operations and sustainment support for the GMD element of the ballistic missile defence system. According to the proposal, Lockheed will be the GMD prime contractor and systems integrator while Raytheon will serve as a strategic partner to provide the GMD Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle, as well as systems engineering.
GMD uses radars and sensors, command-and-control facilities, communications terminals and a fibre-optic communications network to defend the US against long-range ballistic missile threats.
The Lockheed-Raytheon team includes ARES, ATK Aerospace Systems, Harris, Northrop Grumman Information Systems, Orbital Sciences, Oregon Iron Works, Bechtel National, Bluespring Software, CohesionForce, Dynetics, Imprimis, IroquoiSystems and Mission Solutions Engineering among others.
Work will be performed at GMD sites including those in Alaska and California, US.
