Indian technical textiles manufacturer Garware Wall Ropes (GWRL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Israel-based Aero-T to jointly develop advanced aerostat systems for Indian Defence.
Aerostats are tethered balloons that can operate at altitudes of up to 15,000ft and can carry out precise ground surveillance for low levels.
Equipped with radars, these balloons serve as a force multiplier, are highly portable and can be deployed in different terrain to effectively monitor threats.
Aero-T is a subsidiary of Israel’s RT LTA Systems, which designs, develops and manufactures aerostats.
Under the MoU, both companies will establish future cooperation to carry out the indigenous development, manufacturing, supply and maintenance support for advanced aerostats to be deployed for both military and civilian use initially for agreed size.
Garware chairman and managing director Vayu Garware said: “The MOU with Aero-T marks another step on our ‘Make in India’ approach wherein we, along with Aero-T, will be able to cater to the needs of Indian Defence by providing completely indigenised aerostats backed by our reliable delivery and maintenance support.”
Under the collaboration, GWRL will build an aerostat envelope production facility, while Aero-T will be responsible for providing technology and continuous support for aerostats development and production.
