The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale (FMS) of guided multiple launch rocket system (GMLRS) unitary rocket pods to France.
Under the estimated $90m deal, the French Government has requested the sale of 21 GMLRS Unitary Rocket Pods.

The contract also includes a GMLRS Quality Assurance Team (QAT), GMLRS publications, live-fire data, software updates, and technical assistance.
A co-developer of the GMLRS, France expects to expand its current army architecture while improving its self-defence capabilities with the latest procurement.
The proposed sale to a Nato ally is expected to boost US foreign policy and national security objectives.
Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the GMLRS Unitary sale will be carried out from the US stockpile, with no involvement from the company.

An upgraded version of the legacy M26 rocket, the GMLRS is a short-range, road-mobile, solid-propellant artillery rocket. It is designed to destroy ground targets at a distance of up to 70km, with minimal collateral damage.
In February, the Finnish Government unveiled plans to procure munitions for a GMLRS from the US for its armed forces.
Under the €70m procurement, Finland is seeking munitions for a GMLRS alternative warhead (AW) to engage area targets, and a GMLRS Unitary for precision firing.
