Elektrobit (EB) has handed over the first series of the tactical wireless IP network communication system, including tactical router and radio head units, under contract to the Finnish Defence Forces.
The delivery forms part of a €15.6m contract secured by the company for installation of EB tactical wireless IP network to help address the Finnish Army’s modern military operations requirements in September 2011.
In addition to pre-planned and improvised functionality tests, the army has already conducted factory acceptance testing of the delivered products, including review of all military environmental and safety test results.
Finnish Army Materiel Command headquarters major (engineer) Jari Viuho said: "The high-capacity that the EB Tactical Wireless IP Network provides significantly improves the army’s tactical data throughput and also enables the use of command and control applications for battalion task forces on the move."
EB Tactical Wireless IP Network product manager Reima Kettunen added: "By combining the capacity of commercial technologies with the extreme military environment requirements, the EB tactical wireless IP network represents a new way of building military communication systems cost-effectively."
Based on software-defined radio architecture, the EB tactical wireless IP network is a stand-alone military/authority wireless broadband network designed to facilitate establishment of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) in harsh environmental conditions for ground-based operations.
