Denel has introduced the Casspir Eland, a new heavy-duty recovery vehicle, as part of efforts to expand its Mechem’s recovery vehicle line-up.Based on the Casspir mine-resistant system, the new vehicle is larger and heavier than the 4×4 Casspir Gemsbok.
Mechem’s new recovery vehicle is a 6×6 configuration based on the Casspir NG2000 series. It has been developed to provide protection, power and comfort for passengers and crew.

The Angolan Defence Force has recently placed orders for two of the company’s recovery vehicles.
Mechem general manger Ashley Williams said that Denel recently agreed to supply mine-protected variants to an international client.
The firm is also involved in the production of the Casspir 6×6 Stallion, a recovery vehicle based on a truck chassis with a protected cab.
Available in 4×4 and 8×8 variants, the vehicle is capable of performing heavy-duty recovery tasks.
According to the company, potential African customers can use the Casspir variants for military operations and peace support missions.
Last December, Mechem supplied a batch of ten Casspir personnel carriers to an undisclosed client.
These vehicles have been fitted with special mine roller attachments, which can be used to clear land mines and unexploded ordnance.
The deal also included the supply of five Casspir Stallion recovery vehicles.
