The Canadian Armed Forces are participating in a multinational training exercise, code-named Exercise Stalwart Guardian 2014 (Ex SG14), in the Niagara Peninsula in Southern Ontario, Canada.
In addition to 2,000 Canadian Army soldiers from the regular and reserve units, including the Canadian Division (4 Cdn Div), the exercise also involves personnel from the 40 US Army 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and ten soldiers from the UK Army’s 52nd Lowland, 6th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
During Ex SG14, soldiers will conduct both mounted and dismounted patrols, while participating in challenging military scenarios.
The exercise provides a realistic and demanding scenario for 4 Cdn Div personnel and tests the troops’ collective abilities in a dynamic battle space.
Canadian defence minister Rob Nicholson said: "Exercises like Stalwart Guardian help the Canadian Armed Forces to continue to develop combat-effective units capable of responding to a multitude of threats, including the provision of rapid and effective assistance to Canadian citizens and their communities as required.
"The exercise provides a unique opportunity to train in local communities and showcase the skills and professionalism of the Canadian Army to the people of the Niagara."
