The bombing of a police training centre in Libya has killed at least 47 people and injured more than 100.
The centre, which was previously a military base, is located in the western Libyan city of Zliten between the capital Tripoli and the port of Misrata.
None of the terrorist groups active in the region claimed responsibility for the attack. However, an ISIS militant group has claimed responsibility for a car bombing that killed at least seven people in the oil port of Ras Lanuf on 7 January.
The situation in the North African nation has continued to deteriorate in recent months amid significant political fragmentation and violence, which began after the collapse of the Muammer Gaddafi dictatorship in 2011.
Last year, the UN Security Council (UNSC) adopted a resolution to extend the mandate of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), which aims to resolve the country’s political crisis, until 15 March 2016.
The UNSC acknowledged that the situation in Libya has worsened with the smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons from and through Libyan territory.
