The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential arms sale worth $60bn to Saudi Arabia.
Under the $60bn foreign military sale, $31.1bn is for the Saudi Arabian Royal Guard, National Guard and Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF) with the remainder issued for the Royal Saudi Air force.
The $31.1bn sale includes 70 AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters, engines, night vision sensors, 72 UH-60M Blackhawk, 36 AH-6i light attack, 12 MD-530F light turbine helicopters, and all other associated kits and services.
The Saudi Arabian National Guard will use the AH-64D for its national security, protecting its borders and oil infrastructure, the defence of vital installations and to provide air support for Saudi military ground forces.
The Saudi Arabian Royal Guard and the RSLF will also use the AH-64D to improve their ability to effectively protect borders and vital installations.
The potential sale will also increase the Apache sustainability and interoperability with the US Army, Gulf Cooperation Council countries and other coalition forces.
