Raytheon has upgraded its 1,000th Patriot guidance-enhanced missile-tactical (GEM-T) for the US Army.

The upgrade involves the select components replacement that enhances reliability and extends the service life of the missile.

The advanced GEM-T missile offers an extensive capability against various threats, such as tactical ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, at a fraction of the cost of a new missile.

The surface to air missile is part of the Patriot air and missile defence system and is a modernised and refurbished version of the Patriot advanced capability-2 missile.

Raytheon IDS is the prime contractor for both domestic and international Patriot air and missile defence systems.

The upgrades under the existing contracts with the US and other Patriot partner nations are performed at Raytheon’s Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover, Massachusetts, US.
