The US Army has awarded an indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to Honeywell to provide shock-tolerant artillery for the M119 howitzer.
Under the $65m contract, Honeywell’s tactical advanced land inertial navigator (aTALIN) will provide continuous, self-contained, accurate location and pointing information.

The navigator also provides enhanced situational awareness, far target location, target acquisition, and weapon and sensor pointing.
The aTALIN uses the ring laser gyro and accelerometer technology connected with an embedded global positioning system (GPS) and internal shock isolation system to provide mission effectiveness.
Honeywell Aerospace vice-president Paul Vidano said aTALIN could meet better than one milliradian accuracy equivalent to targeting a truck from five miles away without external shock isolation.
