The US is looking to sign a $30bn arms sale contract with Saudi Arabia that will include the delivery of 84 Boeing F-15 fighter jets.

The proposed arms deal also includes an undisclosed number of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters built by Sikorsky Aircraft, missile defence equipment and ships, hardware, spare parts, training and support, according to Reuters.

Defense Security Cooperation Agency director Jeffrey Wieringa said Congress would be notified of the sale in the next couple of months.

The US is intending to sell advanced military hardware to the Saudi Arabia in an effort to counter Iran’s growing defence capabilities.

Pentagon sources said discussions were being carried out by defence representatives of the US and Saudi Arabia to reach agreement on security cooperation deal.
