Russia’s state arms exporter, Rosoboronexport, and French defence firm Thales have signed various agreements for the technology transfer and delivery of communications equipment for Russian armoured vehicles.
Rosoboronexport deputy director-general Igor Sevastyanov said the first contract involved the transfer of technologies to Russia for the production of thermal imagers, according to RIA Novosti.
“As per the second contract, Russia will bring in communications equipment for integration into Russian armoured vehicles for testing,” he said.
Production and assembly work for the thermal imaging cameras will be carried out at the Vologda optical and mechanical plant in central European Russia.
The cameras will be used in civilian applications, which include monitoring the efficiency of thermal insulation and the detection of heat leaks.
The communications equipment will also be installed on the Russian Army’s T-90 tanks and BMP-3 armoured personnel carriers.
