Nato has granted a membership action plan (MAP) to Bosnia, with conditions attached on implementation, that could see the country join the alliance in near future.
In October 2009, Bosnia applied for a membership plan in the alliance, which was turned down by Nato in December after the country failed to carry out needed reforms, according to Reuters.

Nato spokesman James Appathurai said the organisation would only accept Bosnia’s first annual reform plan under the programme when defence property, such as bases, was registered as belonging to the state and for use of the defence ministry.
“Bosnia has made significant progress on reform including its decision to destroy surplus ammunition and arms and to contribute troops to the Nato mission in Afghanistan,” Appathurai said.
MAP is a multistage process of military reforms that a Nato candidate needs to fulfil prior to receiving membership in the alliance.
