Russia is expected to unveil its new main battle tank (MBT), the T-95, for the first time at an arms show in the Urals region during the Russian summer, which begins in May according to Ria Novosti.
Russian machine-building company Uralvagonzavod began development of the new tank, named “Item 195”, in the early 1990s.
Uralvagonzavod plant general director Oleg Siyenko said work on the project had been conducted over many years, according to rianovosti.
“If the government gives us a ‘green light’ we will exhibit the tank at the [Russian Expo Arms 2010] arms show in Nizhny Tagil this summer,” he said.
The 55t T-95 MBT is expected to be equipped with a 152mm smoothbore gun capable of firing guided missiles with a range of 6,000m-7,000m and will have a speed increase from 30km/h-50km/h to 50km/h-65km/h.
