The US Army has awarded a contract to Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation to provide engineering and technical support services for its H-60 helicopters.
Under the $168.7m contract, Sikorsky will provide supplies and technical, engineering and logistical support for the H-60 helicopters and recapitalisation of the H-60 weapon system at Corpus Christi Army Depot.
The H-60 helicopter family is the US military designation for the Sikorsky S-70 family of helicopters.
The Sikorsky S-70 is a medium transport and utility helicopter that features a crashworthy cabin box, armour-plated cockpit, self-sealing fuel tanks and wheeled landing gear that can absorb heavy vertical impacts.
The S-70 can perform a wide range of missions including air cavalry, electronic warfare and aeromedical evacuation.
Work will be carried out for a year in Corpus Christi, Texas, and is expected to be complete by 30 November 2010.
The contract has been awarded by the US Army Aviation and Missile Command, AMSCC-AVM-AL-D, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
