The Czech Army has opened a CZK1.5bn tender to acquire around 8,000 assault rifles and 400 grenade launchers to replace the ageing MAG-58 machine guns.
In addition, the Army also wants to acquire about 1,400 telescope sights with night vision adapters and laser pointers as well as spare parts and ammunition.
Czech indigenous arms manufacturer Ceska zbrojovka has expressed interest in the contract and is proposing its CZ 805, which can be structured into an assault rifle, a light machine gun or a light sniper gun.
Bidders are required to submit their proposals by 18 December 2009.
