The US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) has awarded a $52.8m contract to Force Protection to supply 48 Buffalo Mine Protected Clearance Vehicles (MPCV).

The Buffalo MPCV is an advanced reconnaissance and urban operations vehicle designed to protect occupants from landmines, hostile fire and improvised explosive devices.

The 8.2m-long 6×6 vehicle has an operational range of 483km and can move at a speed of 105kmph.

Force Protection chief executive officer Michael Moody said that the Buffalo continues to be one of the most sought after vehicles on the battlefield and is critically important to route clearance operations in Afghanistan.

Work will be carried out in South Carolina and is expected to be completed before September 2010.
